Job Description
The Department of Geography and Environment of the Faculty of Social Sciences is opening applications for two 75% assistant positions, whose profiles will correspond to the research conducted there. The successful candidate commits to:
- Conduct a doctoral thesis in one of the fields developed at the Department of Geography and Environment
- Deliver teaching provided by the Department of Geography and Environment at Bachelor level
- Supervise students' work, prepare and mark exams and assessment tasks
- Participate in the doctoral programme in geography of the University Conference of Western Switzerland and in the research animation activities of the Department of Geography and Environment
Required Title and Skills
- Hold a Master’s degree in geography or an equivalent qualification in the field of social sciences or spatial planning and urbanism
- Have skills and a clear interest in research in geography in a field related to the Department’s areas of expertise
- An interest in critical approaches, qualitative methods and/or creative and/or visual methods
- Proficiency in French (spoken and written). Good level of English

Additional Information
The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial period of two years; the appointment is renewable for two successive periods, respectively of two years and one year.
The maximum duration of the assistant position is therefore five years.
The position is funded by the Department of Public Instruction (DIP).
Presence at the University of Geneva is required.
The thesis topic must be officially submitted to the Faculty before the end of the first year.
The thesis will be supervised by a professor of the Department of Geography and Environment, whom the candidate will identify during their first year of contract.
Doctoral assistants are employed in grade 8 and, in principle, step 4 of the salary scale of the State of Geneva.
