Road traffic poses many dangers for children. The youngest often have difficulty crossing the roadway. The approximately 7,500 school patrols in Switzerland can help them and thus contribute to the safety of children on their way to school.
Task:
School patrols are mainly stationed at pedestrian crossings on the way to school. Service hours depend on school schedules. In general, patrols must occupy the post assigned to them 10 to 15 minutes before classes start and 2 to 3 minutes before classes end. They will remain on site until the majority of students have passed the location in question. This function represents about 2 to 7 hours of work per week.
Training and supervision:
Before starting their duties, school patrols are trained by instructors from the Nyon Region Police. They are insured against accidents from the time of their training. The work of school patrols is supervised by traffic instructors from the police.
Equipment:
School patrols are equipped with special clothing. The equipment is provided by the traffic instructors responsible for supervision.
Desired profile:
Candidates, whether women or men, must have good contact with children and the public in general. They must be able to enforce their signals with schoolchildren and motorists. They must be reliable, available, and punctual, enjoy good health and a good reputation, and speak fluent French. Patrols will be based in Nyon.
