Responsibilities of the caregiver in a family setting
Introduction:
The caregiver takes responsibility, at their home and for remuneration, for the children entrusted to them during the absence of their parents due to their professional activities or training.
With regard to their own family and themselves, the caregiver
1. is attentive to their own reactions, to those of their children and family, prepares themselves and prepares the members of their family for the arrival of the child they are going to care for. knows their limits and the limits of their family, remains attentive not to exceed them, in the interest of everyone. preserves their place and the place of each member of their family. Even if warm bonds are formed, family daycare remains a professional activity carried out at home.
With regard to the child, the caregiver
strives to integrate the child by allowing them to gradually adapt to this new environment and to experience the separation from their parents as best as possible. does not leave the child alone in their home, does not entrust them to a third party. If, exceptionally, in case of emergency, this is necessary, they inform the parents. ensures the safety of the child entrusted to them inside or outside their home, is responsible for them during the entire care period and therefore exercises supervision appropriate to their age and abilities. The child is not left alone in the presence of an animal. is responsible, during the care period, for their physical and psychological well-being. Any malicious behavior towards them, in any form, is prohibited. Corporal punishment is forbidden. informs the parents as soon as possible if the child is injured or falls ill, and takes, respecting the terms of the care contract, the necessary measures. provides the child with a regular rhythm of life, corresponding to their age needs. offers the child a privileged and continuous emotional relationship, respects them in their identity and culture, sets constructive educational limits. provides them with a play area and toys suitable for their development, offers stimulating activities and contacts with the outside world. If the weather permits, outdoor activities (walks, games) are organized every day. offers the child a balanced diet, suitable for their age and in sufficient quantity.
10. respects, in their home, hygiene and safety standards. No one should smoke in the home in the presence of the children cared for.
With regard to the parents, the caregiver
informs the parents as precisely as possible, during a first meeting, about how their home care service is organized. clearly fulfills the care contract with the parents and respects its terms. shows availability, diplomacy, and respects the parents in their differences (lifestyle, culture, religion: ) commits to understanding and respecting the limits of the role entrusted to them in the education of the cared-for child. The educational responsibility as well as that of school follow-up remains the responsibility of the parents. clearly sets their own limits and explains them to the parents. informs the parents of what the child experiences during the care period and seeks their agreement for any activity or unforeseen change. respects the duty of discretion regarding the cared-for children and their families. Parents can obtain information regarding their own children exclusively.
With regard to the network, the caregiver
collaborates with the investigation by accepting the visit(s) of the coordinator, provides accurate information and supplies the requested documents for obtaining authorization. attends the introductory course to family daycare during the duration of their provisional authorization (18 months) and then, in the following years, attends the mandatory annual support meeting. informs the coordinator of any changes occurring in their own family (bereavement, separation, illness, unemployment, pregnancy, etc.) does not engage in care until receiving the green light from the service.
They report any new child cared for or any change in care using the current documents, collaborates with the cantonal statistics regarding family daycare. cares within the limits of the granted authorization.
They report to the coordinator any problematic or emergency situation.
They accept regular visits from the coordinator, at least once a year according to the law.
They work according to the objectives of the EFAJE coordination structure, which are to provide, to working parents, sustainable and quality care solutions for their children.
They regularly send their accounts to the secretariat within the deadlines.
11. respects the duty of confidentiality and refrains from transmitting to anyone not subject to professional secrecy or confidentiality any information regarding the cared-for children and their families.
12. participates in training meetings (relay-contact) organized by their coordination structure and by cantonal services, in order to better understand the needs of children, to continuously improve dialogue with placing parents, and to learn to preserve themselves and their own family.
13. addresses their criticisms and claims regarding their activity in general, first to the coordinator.
14. works with the responsible persons of the coordination structure to promote and recognize their family daycare activity.
