The Office for Archaeology of the Canton of Fribourg (AAFR) identifies, inventories and documents archaeological cultural assets. It accompanies the administrative procedures concerning archaeological monuments located in archaeological zones and provides funds to carry out excavations and, if necessary, to preserve archaeological monuments. It enhances the created documentation in the form of publications. To raise awareness among various target groups about the richness of the archaeological heritage, the Office organises open days as well as lectures and exhibitions; it also participates in training.

Your tasks
- Creating condition analyses of archaeological objects as well as determining and documenting appropriate conservation and restoration measures
- Carrying out conservation and restoration work, especially on inorganic materials, while preserving the integrity of the objects and considering traceability, sustainability and the preservation of cultural heritage
- Writing treatment reports and scientific articles
- Packing archaeological finds and ensuring their preservation as well as assisting in monitoring the condition of the archaeological collections
- Archiving the created documents and integrating them into information systems
- Contributing to knowledge transfer by training interns and staff in best practices of conservation and restoration and participating in the dissemination of cultural heritage through guided tours for groups
- Assisting in the preparation, installation and dismantling of exhibitions
Desired profile
- You hold a Master of Arts in Conservation and Restoration from a University of Applied Sciences or an equivalent qualification
- You have proven professional experience in the conservation and restoration of archaeological finds
- You possess excellent organisational skills and work in a very structured, methodical and efficient manner
- You are curious and inventive. You enjoy learning new techniques and developing new skills
- You are sociable and communicative and maintain good relations with your colleagues
- You enjoy working in a complementary team serving the archaeological heritage and can adapt your methods to existing framework conditions
- Knowledge of information systems (relational databases) is an advantage
- You are proficient in standard office software
- You master either German or French and have good knowledge of the other language
