Senior Specialist Tax Operations (f/m)

Herwig, Roland, Philipp and other colleagues from the Connectivity & Network Management group in Basel are looking for reinforcement. In other words: you!

Your new job

• You ensure the complete, correct and comprehensible recording of all payments relevant to the US withholding tax for the SLB/Repo business. This includes in particular substitute interest payments from US Treasuries.
• As a withholding agent, the bank must correctly handle every reportable payment. You enrich such payments for tax purposes (Chapter 3/4, documentation, income, status and exemption codes), ensure correct deductions and reconcile tax bookings with IRS deposits.
• You prepare Forms 1042-S and 1042 and hand over a complete, auditable dossier to our compliance department.
• You establish routines and controls and automate recurring reconciliations.
  

What we benefit from

• You have a degree in law or economics or an equivalent qualification
• You bring at least four years of professional experience in tax-relevant areas and sound knowledge of tax reporting and operational tax processes. You have prepared at least two complete 1042-S/1042 cycles in operational responsibility
• You apply withholding agent obligations (Chapter 3/4), income, status and exemption codes as well as IRS instructions confidently. You understand how substitute payments arise in SLB and repo payment chains over coupon dates
• You query data via SQL in the DWH and navigate confidently in large data sets in Excel. Avaloq knowledge is a plus
• You think in terms of controls and processes, work precisely and on time and document reconciliations in an audit-proof manner
• You work proactively and independently and escalate risks early and unambiguously
• You communicate confidently in German and English and see yourself as a service provider to trading, service centre, IT, finance & risk, compliance and external counterparties
• You are keen to expand your area of expertise to custody topics
