The Pension Fund of the City of Zurich (PKZH) is a leader in occupational pension provision. It manages assets of around 25 billion CHF and insures the employees of the City of Zurich administration and affiliated companies. PKZH employs around 60 staff and is located at a central site near Stauffacher in Zurich.

Due to the retirement of the previous post holder, we are seeking a Legal Counsel for Asset Investments (70-100%).

The position is organisationally assigned to the Operations Department within the Asset Investments division. You will advise the division on legal, tax and governance matters and work closely with investment specialists and external professional partners.

Your tasks

You are the central point of contact for legal, tax and regulatory questions in the Asset Investments division (GBA).

You review and negotiate contracts related to PKZH’s investment activities. In doing so, you frequently deal with international, especially Anglo-Saxon, asset managers and other professional business partners.

You assess investment forms and vehicles from a legal perspective and critically review legal due diligence conducted by external partners.

You are responsible for the tax specialist area within the GBA: you monitor relevant developments, validate tax clarifications and due diligence work by external specialists, and ensure, together with our partners, a proper and tax-efficient implementation of investments.

You support the GBA management with governance issues, further develop regulatory and conceptual foundations, and contribute to the proper implementation of the investment organisation as well as the requirements for integrity and loyalty.

You lead the data protection specialist group and bring legal expertise to cross-divisional projects and issues at PKZH.

Your profile

You have a completed university law degree (Master of Law / lic. iur. or equivalent) complemented by a practising certificate.

You bring several years of relevant professional experience in financial or capital markets law, preferably with a pension fund, a private insurer, an asset manager, a bank or a law firm specialising in business law.

You are experienced in reviewing and negotiating complex contracts and have a good understanding of institutional asset investments. Experience with international or Anglo-Saxon contract documentation is particularly welcome.

You can competently assess tax issues related to capital investments and critically validate work by external tax experts.

You possess a strong understanding of governance and regulatory requirements and have good knowledge of Swiss pension and data protection law.

You communicate very confidently in German and have negotiation-level English skills. You work analytically, structured and independently, think pragmatically and act solution-oriented.
