PRESS RELEASE, 28.2.2025 Swiss Storytelling Night, 14 November 2025: "Time Travel" Dear media professionals Reading promotion in practice: Under this year's motto "Time Travel" we invite schools, libraries, bookstores, youth centers, community centers, and cultural institutions to participate in the Swiss Storytelling Night on 14 November. The sponsors of this reading promotion project are the Swiss Institute for Children and Youth Media SIKJM, Bibliomedia Switzerland, and UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The Swiss Storytelling Night, with around 750 events annually, is one of the largest cultural events in Switzerland. This year it celebrates its 30th anniversary. During one evening, children, young people, and their parents across Switzerland experience the power of stories. The shared experience remains memorable and joyfully conveys the pleasure of reading. This year's motto of the Swiss Storytelling Night - "Time Travel / Voyage dans le temps / Viaggio nel tempo / Viadi en il temp" - invites using books as vehicles to travel to the past or future. Thus, criminal cases can be solved thanks to time travel, great historical epochs can be experienced up close, and fantastic worlds of tomorrow can be explored. Whether moving biographies or historical novels - from Anne Frank to "Ritter Rost" stories take us on a journey to past times. Invited storytellers from different generations can share from their lives and provide insights into lived history. Well-known series like "Asterix" or "The Magic Tree House" as well as timeless science fiction classics like "The Time Machine" transport listeners to other eras. And what was life like in the times of Heidi or the Red Zora? This year's motto offers, besides plenty of (pre-)reading material, also creative design ideas for storytelling journeys for all age groups. The first course part for beginners offers organizational tips for conducting a storytelling night, the second part for beginners and experienced focuses on media tips and implementation suggestions for the 2025 storytelling night motto.
