About the job
Scientific Employee (Physics/Chemistry/Engineering) 80 – 100% (23 months)
Particle and Aerosol Laboratory | From August 1, 2026 or by arrangement
The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a liter is always a liter (e.g., when refueling gasoline), METAS performs calibrations, conformity assessments, and consulting for industry, research, and administration. Measurement accuracy creates trust, especially at the societal and political level, and is indispensable in many areas, including road traffic, electricity billing, time transmission, measurements in environmental and health sectors, etc. At METAS, various disciplines come together and complement each other – and this has been the case since 1862.
Your new challenge
- Development of field calibration methods for in-situ instruments to measure aerosol light absorption.
- Close collaboration with air quality monitoring networks and industry partners. Organization of field measurement campaigns.
- Independent execution of laboratory experiments including data analysis.
- Publication of research results and presentation at scientific conferences.
- Acquisition of third-party funding by writing your own research proposals.
Your profile
- Doctorate in physics, chemistry, or engineering sciences and proven experience in aerosol research with a focus on soot measurements.
- Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and practical work in the laboratory.
- Open-minded, flexible, and team-oriented personality who easily masters new challenges.
