Apprentice: Precision Optician EFZ for 2026
Field of work:
For optical devices such as telescopes, microscopes, projection devices, medical diagnostic devices, and astro lenses, precision opticians manufacture lenses, prisms, plane, and round optical components. They process the glass partly by hand, partly with modern computer-controlled machines (CNC), which they program, set up, and also maintain. Accuracy and precision characterize the optical parts, so work is done to fractions of a thousandth of a millimeter.
Requirements:
• Good eyesight without color vision deficiencies, steady hands
• Enjoyment of precision work
• Technical understanding
• Spatial imagination
• Interest in chemistry, physics, and mathematics
• Flexibility, creativity, and ability to work in a team
• Good secondary school students or very good intermediate school students
Training:
• Duration of apprenticeship, 4 years
• Vocational school, BZR Rorschach
