Senior Grid Studies Engineer (80-100%) - 1644
Contribute to electricity supply in Switzerland
In this varied and demanding role, you are responsible for creating models and conducting studies for the long-term development of the transmission grid, with a particular focus on voltage support, system stability, and integration of new technologies. Your tasks include the following:
- Modelling various components of the electrical system for dynamic analyses, including conventional equipment and power electronics-based devices
- Maintaining and extending network models used for planning and stability studies
- Conducting network studies (load flow, short circuits, RMS and EMT simulations), with emphasis on voltage support and dynamic system stability studies
- Defining and verifying technical requirements to be met by connection applicants in the areas of system stability, voltage support, and voltage quality
- Analysing the dynamic behaviour of the electrical system and assessing the impact of new installations and technologies connected to the grid
- Participating in projects conducted with network operators, producers, and national and international partners
- Managing and reviewing studies carried out by external partners
- Developing tools and automation scripts for stability studies
- Representing Swissgrid in national and international working groups in your area of expertise
This is how you make a difference
We are looking for a self-reliant, organised person with a synthetic mind and good presentation skills. Furthermore, you have the following profile:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, specialising in electrical networks, or equivalent training
- In-depth knowledge of methods and devices for static and dynamic voltage support
- Excellent knowledge in electrical network calculations (load flow, short circuit, dynamic analyses) and voltage support
- Knowledge of the electricity market and market models
- Experience using network simulation tools such as PSS/E, Neplan, and EMTP
- At least 5 years of experience in network studies within the energy sector
- Knowledge of scripting programming (e.g. with Python and Matlab)
- Very good knowledge of German or French (in at least one of the two languages) and good knowledge of English

About us
The Grid Development and Studies group (eight people) is responsible for network development studies. We work with Swiss distribution network operators and power plants as well as foreign TSOs. We are responsible for managing network models and analyses for long-term planning. In this context, we evaluate connection requests to the transmission grid and carry out the necessary studies to analyse system stability and dynamic behaviour with planned projects.
