As part of a major deep geothermal drilling project in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, IOTA is seeking several experienced drilling professionals to strengthen the teams involved in this campaign.
Job Description
We are looking for several experienced Derrickmen / Drilling Rig Operators to participate in a deep geothermal drilling campaign in Switzerland.
Operations will be carried out on a lightweight drilling rig – Super Light Rig – equipped with an MPD (Managed Pressure Drilling) system.
The site will operate 24/7, with 12-hour shifts on a 3x3 rotation.
Technical training and project familiarisation of one to two weeks are planned in Switzerland in December 2026, before operational start-up scheduled for January 2027.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Handling, positioning and storing tubulars in accordance with operational procedures and safety requirements.
- Participating in running and pulling drill pipe strings under the supervision of the Driller or Assistant Driller.
- Using and monitoring drilling fluid systems and pumps during operations.
- Participating in operations carried out on the Super Light Rig with MPD system.
- Preparing and mixing the chemicals and additives required for drilling fluids.
- Controlling the volumes and properties of drilling fluids.
- Recording fluid data and promptly reporting any anomalies or operational difficulties.
- Ensuring compliance with project procedures and operator requirements.
- Maintaining a strong safety and HSE culture on site at all times.
Qualifications
We are seeking professionals with proven experience in onshore drilling operations.
Required experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Oil & Gas Onshore drilling operations or deep geothermal.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in continental Europe.
- Good knowledge of rig operations.
- Good command of drilling fluid systems.
- Good knowledge of safety procedures applicable to drilling operations.
Expected skills:
- Practical experience in handling tubulars and drilling equipment.
- Good understanding of running and pulling drill pipe string operations.
- Ability to work with pumping and drilling fluid systems.
- Ability to monitor and record fluid parameters.
- Strict adherence to operational and HSE procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within an international drilling team.
- Advanced professional English is essential.
Required / expected certifications:
- IWCF Level 2
- OPITO H2S
- MIST or BOSIET
- Valid OEUK medical certificate
Previous experience with an MPD – Managed Pressure Drilling system will be particularly appreciated.
