Circus Chnopf is a cross-genre and intergenerational project. Since 1990, we have been producing innovative open-air spectacles and touring through Switzerland in the summer. We offer young people the opportunity to develop their talents while working with experienced artists. Many of our alumni are now working in artistic professions.
In our work with young people, we pursue two goals: First, we convey artistic craftsmanship at a high level; second, we promote creativity, independence, and a spirit of experimentation. The young people actively participate in the creative process. Participation in the life and work community of Circus Chnopf enhances their social and emotional competence.
What does a tour week look like?
Monday: Dismantling, travel, setup – Tuesday: free – Wednesday: training/rehearsals, evening performance – Thursday: school or various tasks (postering, repairs, washing...) – Friday: training, performance – Saturday: school/training, performance – Sunday: performance, dismantling stage
Supervision
Each person from the management or backstage team is responsible for supervising the young people and takes care of the contact with teachers and the processing of school material. Young people are entitled to support in the artistic and educational field as well as supervision and guidance in everyday life. They assist in setup and dismantling, in household tasks, and before and after the shows, but do not assume sole responsibility. They are also given opportunities to gain experience backstage in as many areas as possible. The professional artists are responsible for continuous training during the tour. Furthermore, it is emphasized that each young person chooses a mentor or a godparent as a trusted person in the team. The production is directed and implemented by a professional directing team in collaboration with the management team of Circus Chnopf.
Parental Contribution
Circus Chnopf is supported by the non-profit association Circus Chnopf. Our show is open to everyone: We adhere to the principle of hat collection and finance the tour with approximately 60% of our own income. The rest is covered by foundations, sponsors, and our donors. We charge the parents of the young people a flat fee of CHF 3500.- for accommodation, schooling, and meals.
