About the job
Supervisor / Care Worker 80 - 100%With around 1400 employees, the Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is the largest office within the Directorate of Justice and the Interior and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the execution of various types of detention. Our employees from around 40 professions support and promote the reintegration of offenders and are committed effectively and progressively to a safe and just society.
The Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ) are one of eight main departments of JuWe. They comprise seven facilities with around 735 prison places and about 500 employees. They are responsible for provisional detention, investigative and security custody, as well as early penal and measure enforcement until transfer to a correctional facility. Thus, they fulfil a central function within the Zurich justice system from the outset.
As part of the UGZ, the Limmattal Prison is located in the Dietikon district building and has 70 detention places. In addition to a department for adult men, it includes a youth department as well as a specialised department for crisis interventions.
To strengthen our team at Limmattal Prison, with the primary workplace being the youth department, we are looking for a mature personality with extensive life experience and high resilience in dynamic situations. The position is limited to one year.
This is your area of responsibility
- You accompany, care for and occupy detainees, mainly youths up to 18 years old, within the daily structures from their admission to their release. In doing so, you take on various functions and actively contribute to reintegration
- As the first point of contact, you recognise the special challenges faced by detainees and offer them orientation and support in this difficult situation
- To ensure an orderly daily routine, you ensure compliance with and enforcement of our security and service regulations. In critical moments, you are able to recognise and professionally manage crisis situations
- As part of an interdisciplinary team, you also take on administrative tasks such as preparing reports and documenting events, as well as participating in meetings and team forums
- Together with the team, you develop new leisure and meaningful activity offers for the youths and actively help shape the weekly schedule
This is what you bring
- You approach people in a coercive context with a holistic perception and build professional social relationships with them. You understand how to consciously regulate closeness and distance to detainees and handle crisis situations prudently and proactively
- You bring great enthusiasm for your new work environment and actively participate in the development and design of detention conditions in remand custody
- You enjoy working with youths and bring experience in youth work and/or a pedagogical qualification
- You are mentally resilient and flexible working hours (shift, night, weekend and public holiday duties) are compatible with your other commitments
- You have a relevant qualification (EFZ, (specialist) Matura or similar) and several years of professional experience – ideally in a comparable role
- You express yourself well in German both in writing and orally and ideally have knowledge of other languages
- You are proficient with the MS Office suite
- Minimum age of 25 years and a clean record (i.e. no relevant entries in the criminal or debt registers)
This is what makes this position special
- You can look forward to a demanding, interesting and varied role as well as a reliable, supportive team
- You have access to a wide range of internal and external training opportunities – including part-time training to become a specialist in correctional services with a federal certificate
- The workplace is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport
- JuWe offers attractive employment conditions according to cantonal guidelines
