Claudia Frei has been the headteacher of the Steig Primary School in Wittenbach for about 3.5 months.
How was your start as headteacher?
It was pleasant that I could start on 2 August, two weeks before the official start of school. That left enough time to set up my workspace and to talk to and get to know the teachers.
My predecessor, Christine Huber, took the time to train me and already involved me in events and meetings before my official appointment. I was able to benefit a lot from that. I can discuss everyday questions with my co-headteacher, Miriam Spirig. Her experience and know-how are a great enrichment.
What were the most challenging moments?
My greatest respect was for the unforeseen. Not knowing whether I would manage to react appropriately depending on the situation. The support I receive from the team is also not something I take for granted. I was warmly welcomed by the entire team. They are all very helpful and have approached the adventure of "new headteacher" without prejudice. I am very glad about that.
What are the plans for the next 100 days?
Until the autumn holidays, it was important for me to get to know the whole team and to gather the needs of the individual people. Now it is moving towards school development and personnel management. How can we further develop as a school? How can we support each other? Where is our path leading?
In school operations, the school year planning is a major topic. Special events lighten up the school day. Next up are Advent and Christmas rituals, whose internal preparations are already underway. We are also especially looking forward to the year 2023, when the Steig school building will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special week. As soon as the programme is set, the public will be informed.
