The Vector Biology Group is inviting applications for a:
PhD Position in Medical Entomology (100%) Our research group investigates the biology, surveillance and control of insect vectors of human pathogens. We are offering a PhD position to study the behaviour and ecology of the invasive Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, and to evaluate innovative, community-based control strategies - including large-scale adult mosquito trapping - in Basel, Switzerland, as part of a cluster-randomised controlled trial.

Your position
- Plan and conduct field experiments on mosquito behaviour and ecology
- Collect, manage and analyse entomological and environmental data
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of community-based vector control strategies
- Support the implementation of a cluster-randomised controlled trial
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences
Your profile
- Master’s degree in biology, ecology, epidemiology, entomology or a related field
- Strong interest in vector biology, applied entomology and public health
- Experience with fieldwork and experimental design
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Quantitative skills and experience with statistical analysis (e.g. R) are an advantage
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset
