With nearly 1,200 employees, the Department of Acute Medicine (DMA) includes the services of anaesthesiology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, intensive care, and emergency services. It fulfils a fourfold mission through its services, which provide expertise in frequent interaction with the entire Geneva University Hospitals, thanks to a transversal platform, with the aim of ensuring the best possible patient care.
The Emergency Service is a transversal service tasked with welcoming patients 24/7 regardless of the nature of their health problem, ensuring rapid and effective care to direct them to the most appropriate structure. The Emergency Service also provides urgent medical assistance at the cantonal level, coordinates and manages major events, while serving as a reference service for the canton’s structures.
The Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit (UMSH), equipped with a double hyperbaric chamber, is integrated into the emergency service and manages both elective and urgent patients.
Job Description
You participate in clinical, administrative, research, and teaching activities to ensure efficient operation and development of the UMSH, in close collaboration with the unit’s responsible physician whom you assist.
You take part in all clinical activities, ranging from the care of elective or urgent patients referred for possible indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as consultations for recreational and professional diving fitness.
You participate in the management of hyperbaric emergencies 24/7 according to the on-call schedule organisation.
You engage in discussions of complex cases and interdisciplinary meetings.
You participate in prevention activities and supervision of professionals in hyperbaric environments.
You contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate training (doctors, nurses, students, others).
You are involved in university teaching (UNIGE).
You participate in fundamental, clinical, or translational research projects in hyperbaric and diving medicine.
You contribute to scientific dissemination (publications, conferences).
You participate in the daily operational management of the unit.
You take part in the development, updating, and implementation of protocols and procedures.
You represent the UMSH in internal or external working groups.
You participate in the strategic development of the unit (new indications, innovations).
You engage in institutional projects.
You contribute to the development of collaborations.
You assist the unit’s responsible physician in all activities, from supervising medical activities to teaching, research, unit management, and policy design.
Qualifications
You hold a federal medical diploma or equivalent training recognised by MEBEKO and a specialist title with the AFC in underwater and hyperbaric medicine or equivalent. You possess the right to practice in the canton of Geneva.
You have an interest and experience in teaching and research.
You have an interest and/or experience in management and leadership.
You have already demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to carry out projects in a multidisciplinary team.
Experience as a physician in a hyperbaric medicine centre would be an asset, as would the ability to communicate (oral and written) in English.
