Legal Intern (80-100%) (12-month internship)
On behalf of the canton of Fribourg, Caritas Switzerland welcomes and supports recognised refugees. These are individuals whose reason for fleeing has been acknowledged and who hold a refugee status B or F. Caritas has multiple objectives: Refugees are welcomed in our shelter and supported in finding accommodation. Social support as well as material aid are provided if needed. Caritas also assists them in steps towards professional and social integration. To ensure the legal execution of our mandate, especially regarding the application of social assistance standards, we are looking for a legal intern to complete our team.
Your tasks
- Participate in the legal analysis of social assistance files and ensure their follow-up
- Contribute to handling situations notably related to social insurance, alimony, debt enforcement, housing and employment by collaborating with internal and external partners
- Provide legal support to the Department’s staff
- Participate in internal legal duty shifts
- Draft various legal documents (decisions, opinions, appeals, legal advice, etc.) and diverse correspondence related to the application of the LASoc and the management of the Department’s various Services
- Monitor practice, case law and doctrine in relevant legal fields
- Work closely with the Department’s different Services
- Collaborate with the Caritas Switzerland Legal Advice Office in Fribourg, particularly regarding family reunification issues and access to social insurance benefits
Our requirements
- University education (at least currently pursuing a Master of Law)
- Strong interest in social assistance and social insurance, tenancy law, labour law, personal and family law, and debt enforcement law
- Ability to make complex legal concepts accessible to non-lawyers
- Good writing skills and strong analytical abilities
- Ability to work closely with professionals from other fields
- Open-mindedness, good listening and dialogue skills, and adaptability to various interlocutors
- Proficiency in French with good knowledge of English and German
- Comfortable using common IT tools
- Ability to work in a structured manner, with rigour and a sense of priorities
