About the job

Temporary Assistant / Laboratory Technician 70% (m/f/d)
The Forest and Soil Ecology research unit investigates the impact of environmental changes on the functioning of forest ecosystems. In the Soil Biogeochemistry group, we are looking for a temporary assistant immediately or by arrangement for 4 months
Within the framework of an SNSF-funded project (PI: Peter Waldner), we study the nitrogen cycle in forest ecosystems in Europe. For this purpose, we want to measure the stable isotope signature of nitrates and ammonium in precipitation as well as in soil solutions from a large number of samples from long-term forest monitoring. The main tasks include the extraction of nitrate and ammonium from liquid samples and the determination of leaf properties. All methods and measurements are carried out in state-of-the-art laboratories at WSL Birmensdorf. In addition, occasional fieldwork in Swiss forests may be required.
You have recently completed either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental sciences, forestry, biology, chemistry or a related field, or are about to graduate, or are a trained chemical laboratory technician. Careful handling of large sample quantities and their documentation comes easily to you, and you are already familiar with laboratory work. Your independent and structured working style as well as your accuracy provide ideal prerequisites. Furthermore, you have good organisational skills and good English language skills.
Please send your complete application to Human Resources by submitting the required documents via our application portal. Applications by e-mail or post will not be considered. For questions, Peter Waldner (peter.waldner@wsl.ch) and Patrick Schleppi (patrick.schleppi@wsl.ch) will be happy to assist you. At WSL, diversity and inclusion are lived values. We are committed to gender equality and to promoting an open and inclusive working environment.
