Ensuring electricity in Switzerland

In this challenging role, you are responsible for the technical support of the further development and design of the Swiss extra-high voltage grid. In particular, you will undertake the following tasks:

• Responsibility for drafting requirements for the integration of new technologies such as batteries, data centres and HVDC into the Swiss extra-high voltage grid
• Contributing to the development of the future strategic grid as well as coordination within Swissgrid and collaboration with partners and customers
• Providing technical expertise within the company and supporting system design
• Professional support for development projects and stakeholders as well as taking on the professional client role for internal and external orders and studies
• Identifying and analysing relevant technological developments and trends for grid development and deriving implications and necessary actions for future system operation and the construction of new grid components
• Representing Swissgrid’s interests in national and international committees (e.g. VSE, ENTSO-E) as well as towards relevant stakeholders
• Ensuring the content consistency and further development of essential regulations and industry documents in your own field of expertise

For this position, we are looking for you as a team player with a reliable, structured and quality-conscious working style and a high level of competence for the technical support of the further development of the Swiss transmission grid. You bring the following:

• University degree (PhD if applicable) in electrical engineering or related fields
• At least 5 years of professional experience in energy supply and/or industry in a professional/technical role
• In-depth knowledge of relevant technologies and concepts of the energy system (e.g. converters, batteries, data centres, HVDC)
• Knowledge of the functioning of the transmission grid as well as knowledge of the individual grid elements
• High self-motivation and initiative. Proactive and independent way of working
• Ability to pass on knowledge and experience and to convincingly argue with management and external partners to reach common positions
• Very good, business fluent German skills as well as good English skills are required. French skills are an advantage.

The System Development & New Technologies team shapes the future Swiss transmission grid. This includes both classic grid planning with lines and substations as well as new topics such as batteries, the integration of data centres, compensation systems and HVDC. Our goal is to develop the grid of the future so that Switzerland can be supplied with electricity efficiently, safely and sustainably.
