The Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (e.g. when refuelling), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments and consultations for business, research and administration. Measurement accuracy creates trust, especially at the societal and political level, and is essential in many areas: road traffic, electricity billing, time transmission, measurements in environmental and health sectors, etc. At METAS, various disciplines come together and complement each other – and this has been the case since 1862.

Your new challenge

• You operate and further develop our virtualised server and system infrastructure with a focus on Windows Server, Linux and VMware, ensuring its availability and security.
• Administration and further development of central infrastructure components such as storage, backup, Active Directory and monitoring are part of your responsibilities.
• You independently plan and implement technical modernisations, system migrations and lifecycle measures, further developing our infrastructure architecture and technical standards.
• In the event of complex technical faults, you apply your analysis and problem-solving skills, optimise existing systems and automate recurring operational tasks.
• You take on technical responsibility, document solutions comprehensibly and work closely with your colleagues and external partners.

Your profile

• You have completed IT training and have several years of solid experience in engineering and operating demanding IT infrastructures.
• You have very good knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and VMware vSphere, as well as practical experience in administering Linux systems.
• You are well acquainted with storage, backup and network technologies and bring experience with monitoring, system migrations and lifecycle management.
• You solve complex technical challenges independently and systematically, also using PowerShell or comparable automation technologies.
• You work in a structured and responsible manner, value professional exchange within the team and are willing to participate in the internal weekend on-call service.
