Workplace Basel, North West Switzerland, Switzerland CategoryMasterstudent position in Experimental Neuroimmunology
The Department of Biomedicine is a joint effort between the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel. It unites basic and clinical scientists to advance our understanding of health and disease and to develop pioneering therapies benefiting the lives of patients in areas of unmet need.
With more than 70 research groups and 800 employees, the Department of Biomedicine is the largest department at the University. We are located in the heart of Basel at 6 different locations. Be part of our future!
Why does the immune system attack the brain in patients suffering from Myelin Oligodendrocyte- associated Disease and which role do T cells play in neuroinflammation? Our interdisciplinary team is trying to answer exactly those and other exciting questions. Interested? Then apply for a master thesis in our lab. We are looking forward to your application.
Your position
We are studying the T cell-CNS axis in autoimmune diseases. We work with clinical samples from human patients as well as in vitro models to address our questions.
The tasks for master students include the planning and execution of experiments, e.g. generation of T cell lines, protein expression on tumor cell lines, as well as a phenotypical and functional characterization of such cells using technologies including flow cytometry and microscopy, among others.
Your profile
We are looking for highly motivated and engaged students with a broad interest in immunology. Do you enjoy lab work, are excited by our research questions and can imagine to join an interdisciplinary team? Are you fascinated by the world of T cells and how they can escape tolerance mechanisms and influence an autoimmune response? Then it is you we are looking for!
We offer you
We are an interdisciplinary, dynamic research team at the Department Biomedicine. In our lab medics and scientists work together on basic biological questions, but always stay close to the patient. We are actively supporting the participation in seminars and international conferences and offer a diverse training in modern laboratory techniques.
