You bring theoretical and practical interest in biology and chemistry, possess abstract and analytical thinking skills as well as manual dexterity, and enjoy working in a technical and complex work environment?
The trainees of the biology laboratory technician profession at Eawag gain insight into various current areas of biological research and analytics during their 3-year training. They work for a period of 6-12 months in the research departments of environmental microbiology and aquatic ecology in Dübendorf as well as in fish ecology and evolution in Kastanienbaum (Canton of Lucerne).
In the research area of fish ecology, much is fieldwork, such as measuring rivers and fish as well as getting to know individual fish species. In the field of microbiology, you will learn basic microbiological methods and gain insight into drinking water bacteriology. You will work on isolation and analysis techniques in biochemistry, learn about immunological methods, and deal with molecular biological working methods. In the department of aquatic ecology, you will get to know the typical invertebrates of flowing and groundwater and acquire the necessary sampling techniques. You will examine the microfauna and microflora of plankton and the sediment zone (benthos).
You are in secondary school level A, have good performance in scientific, mathematical, and language subjects, work independently and reliably, and bring a willingness to learn and perform? Then we look forward to your application.
