About the job
The emergency department of the Biel Hospital Centre is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It cares for around 27,000 patients annually. The emergency department is a recognised category 2 postgraduate training institution by the SSMUS for obtaining the additional certificate in hospital emergency medicine and in category IV general internal medicine, outpatient.
A modern emergency practice, managed by emergency staff, is also attached. We also provide training for certificates in abdominal ultrasound and POCUS (thoracic ultrasound, emergency ultrasound, echocardiography).
To strengthen the medical team, we are looking for from 1 March 2027 or by agreement, a:

Your tasks – our position
- Treatment of emergency patients in our dynamic and exciting emergency department as a senior emergency physician
- Integration into the interdisciplinary emergency team, consisting of senior emergency physicians, rotating assistant and consultant physicians, emergency care physicians and junior doctors as well as specialists from various subspecialties
- Participation in the supervision of junior doctors
Your skills – our expectations
- The position is aimed at specialists in general internal medicine with a specialisation in hospital emergency medicine (or about to qualify).
- Professional experience in Switzerland
- In-depth knowledge of emergency ultrasound
- Passion for emergency medicine and high stress tolerance
- Committed, motivated and proactive person, ready to play a decisive role in the development of our emergency medicine in a constantly evolving environment
- Good command of German or French (spoken/written); good knowledge of the other language is essential (minimum level B1)
