The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is an associated institute of the University of Basel.
Launched in 2022, the IOB PhD and MD–PhD Program in Translational Neurosciences offers outstanding young scientists the opportunity to pursue cutting-edge research at the interface of basic science, clinical research, and therapeutic development, while preparing them for future leadership roles.
As part of this program, IOB offers fully funded PhD and MD–PhD positions to outstanding candidates from diverse scientific and medical backgrounds, including Biology, Medicine, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering, who wish to pursue their research within one of our research groups.
In addition to participating in world-leading vision research, candidates benefit from a comprehensive training program that includes:
- Lectures and practical training in state-of-the-art physiological, molecular, and translational technologies
- Opportunities to participate in soft skills and professional development courses
- Opportunities to participate in international summer schools, specialized courses, and scientific conferences at least once per year as well as in the IOB retreat
PhD and MD–PhD candidates will be enrolled at the University of Basel.
Your responsibilities
- Your specific responsibilities and research activities will be defined upon hiring and will depend on the research group and project.
Requirements
- You are an outstanding and highly motivated student aspiring to advance your research in a field relevant to IOB’s research programs
- You hold a Master’s degree, MD, or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, such as Biology, Medicine, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- You have a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Documents required:
- CV, including a section with the names and contact details of two referees, as well as links to your publications, where applicable. Please list your most recent achievements first, in reverse chronological order.
- Motivation letter, explaining why you are a good fit for the program.
- Transcripts, certificates, and diplomas (preferlably in English or one of the swiss official languages, notarised versions not required at this stage)
