System Engineer for Server/Virtualisation/Infrastructure (m/f/d); 80-100%

Tasks

Operation, administration and further development of the KVM-based virtualisation platform including provisioning, lifecycle management, patching, performance optimisation and troubleshooting during ongoing operations
Administration of Linux and Windows servers in physical and virtualised environments, including installation, configuration, hardening, patching, monitoring and incident/problem management
Ensuring stable, secure and available operation of the compute platforms including capacity management, performance analyses as well as sustainable fault rectification at server, hypervisor and operating system level
Participation in automation and standardisation of operational tasks, e.g. with scripting or infrastructure-as-code, to increase quality, speed and traceability
Participation in infrastructure projects such as migrations, renewals, rollouts and technical changes in the compute, storage and backup environment as well as documentation in Confluence and updating existing entries

Completed IT training (EFZ or equivalent) as well as 3-5 years of practical experience as a system engineer in the infrastructure environment
Good to very good knowledge of KVM / QEMU / libvirt or comparable virtualisation technologies as well as understanding of cluster, HA and resource management
Practical experience in the administration of Linux and Windows servers, ideally including OS lifecycle, security hardening, patch management and troubleshooting in enterprise environments
Basic to good understanding of storage and backup technologies, e.g. SAN/NAS, snapshotting, replication, restore, recovery and DR test procedures
Structured, reliable and team-oriented working style, good communication skills as well as willingness to take responsibility in daily operations and in changes/projects
