About the job
The Gassenküche Basel association has been addressing people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds for over 30 years, who find themselves on the margins of society for various reasons. The purpose of the association is the low-cost provision of meals, support, and further counselling for people in difficult life situations. The social, low-threshold offer is aimed daily at around 200 to 250 guests and includes supervised breakfast and dinner.
To strengthen our team, we are looking from 1 November 2026 for a flexible, motivated, socially competent individual as
Employee (m/f/d) with Additional Social Media Responsibilities 50%
who will actively support us with their versatile skills and interests.
These tasks await you:
Meal distribution and kitchen approx. 40-45%:
- Supporting volunteers with meal distribution
- Social accompaniment of our guests during opening hours
- Conflict intervention and enforcement of our house rules
- Assistance in preparing meals in the production kitchen
- Cleaning the kitchen, dining rooms, and distribution area
Social Media / Miscellaneous approx. 5-10%:
- Short weekly posts on Instagram, Facebook, and other channels
- Assistance with website management
- Support in organising events and community activities
- Openness and flexibility for further and other tasks that may arise in our daily work
- Assistance with Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, 24.12.
You bring with you:
- Enjoyment in dealing with people in challenging life situations
- Kitchen experience is an advantage or willingness to learn kitchen work
- Experience in storytelling and social media is an advantage
- High social competence, patience, and clear, appreciative communication
- Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to pitch in – also with practical tasks
- Independent and structured way of working
- Openness and flexibility towards shift work – the workload is spread over a minimum of 3 working days (ideally 4 days; Fridays are always free), with the need to cover absences (e.g. illness)
- Driving licence desired
