ASE within the STSA, Hospitalisation Unit for Minors: UPMH
The Autism Spectrum Disorders & Related Conditions Service is seeking several social and educational assistants at an activity rate between 70% and 90% for the UPMH hospital unit (Psychiatric Crisis Hospitalisation Unit for patients with intellectual disabilities). The starting date is to be agreed upon.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The Autism Spectrum Disorders & Related Conditions Service (STSA and related) is a reference service in the canton of Vaud. Its missions focus on the care and support of minors and adults with ASD, network training, and clinical research. Comprising a tertiary centre, regional structures, as well as cantonal and regional mobile teams, its activity is conducted in close partnership with professionals working in this field of expertise and user associations.
To complement this system, a crisis hospital unit dedicated to intellectual disability with a cantonal vocation, (UPCHM) with a capacity of 8 beds, was established at the Cery site on 1 May 2021. Innovative in its concept and medico-educational governance, and aiming to be an international reference, this specialised unit is primarily intended for patients/residents with autism without functional language or moderate to severe intellectual disability presenting behavioural decompensation or regression, with or without psychiatric comorbidity.
It offers temporary accommodation for patients/residents exhibiting longstanding challenging behaviours significantly impacting their living environment. The creation of this unit has significantly improved the support for patients with specific needs not only in emergency response but also in formulating a shared support plan by health and social-educational professionals. The concept of this unit is innovative and characterised by:
- Providing a setting closer to a living environment than a hospital unit
- Offering combined psycho-educational and medical input, with a multidisciplinary and integrative approach
- Conducting developmental and functional assessments to better specify the person’s needs
- Analysing behavioural disorders according to a severity scale
- Applying procedures for managing violence and health risks, with responsiveness while preventing the use of restraint measures
- Extending intervention during return home or to a social-educational establishment.
Mission
- You support the patients assigned to you and compensate for the disabilities of dependent persons in performing daily living activities
- You ensure the execution and monitoring of activities delegated to you by qualified nursing and educational staff
- You carry out administrative and logistical tasks related to your activity, mainly concerning the patients under your care.
- You provide, under delegation, medico-technical acts in stable situations that do not present an emergency nature
- You implement psycho-educational intervention plans established jointly with educators.
Profile
- You hold a Federal VET Diploma as a social and educational assistant
- You are ready to be part of a pioneering and interdisciplinary unit dedicated to intellectual disability within the framework of opening beds dedicated to the minor patient population, bringing your creativity as well as your organisational and interpersonal skills
- You demonstrate openness and flexibility, as well as a spirit of mutual aid and collaboration
- You have at least 3 years of professional experience in the field of disability and/or child psychiatry.
