Modelling Expert (3D) in Hydraulic Engineering
University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, School of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geomatics, Institute of Civil Engineering
Your tasks:
In the "Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management" department of the Institute of Civil Engineering (IBAU), we focus on modelling water and environmental systems. In applied research projects, we contribute to sustainable planning and operation of infrastructure in times of climate change. We conduct practice-oriented research and implement innovative scientific findings in projects for our clients.
As a research associate, you are responsible for hydraulic modelling in the department. This includes excellent knowledge of relevant software and implicit numerical models and solution methods. Additionally, you operate the physical hydraulic laboratory, plan hydraulic experimental models, and also oversee their construction and operation. Daily interaction with our students and clients completes your range of tasks. Specifically, the tasks include:
- Hydraulic modelling (CFD) for applied research projects
- Planning, construction and operation of hydraulic experimental models
- Management of the hydraulic laboratory
- Planning and conducting laboratory weeks and elective courses
- Support in teaching (e.g. tutorials)
Your profile:
As a research associate, you work at a very high professional level. You independently develop technical solutions, prioritise and organise your tasks reliably and punctually, and can communicate confidently with clients.
- Completed Master’s degree as a civil engineer, environmental engineer or similar with a focus on "Hydraulics" and "Hydraulic Engineering"
- Experience and very good (academic) knowledge in hydraulic modelling of channel flows in 1D (e.g. Hec-Ras, Mike11), 2D (e.g. Hec-Ras2D, Basement) and/or 3D (e.g. OpenFoam, Flow 3D)
- Additional skills in programming for pre- and post-processing (e.g. MatLab, R, Python, etc.)
- Experience in hydraulic experimentation, planning, construction and operation of scaled models of channel flow and hydrometry
The uniqueness of FHNW lies in the combination of teaching and application-oriented research as well as collaboration with practice. The complementary perspectives enable a differentiated understanding and action in a rapidly changing world. Exchange and collaboration are paramount.
Will you soon be part of our team? We look forward to your application.
