The position is project-based and time-limited, with an initial employment period of one year, and any extension will be subject to funding.he Tumor and Stem Cell Dynamics Lab, headed by Prof. Helmuth Gehart, is looking for a highly-motivated laboratory technician to support ongoing research efforts. The position is project-based and time-limited, with an initial employment period of one year. We are located at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences of the Department of Biology (D-BIOL) within the ETH Hönggerberg campus, at the Life Science Campus of ETH Zurich.
Project background
The Tumor and Stem Cell Dynamics Lab combines a wide variety of disciplines and techniques to answer outstanding questions in cancer and stem cell research. Our interdisciplinary research group combines organoid technology, microfluidics, patient samples, microscopy, in vivo models, genome engineering, single-cell analysis, and computational and molecular biology to elucidate the inner workings cancer cells and adult stem cells.
Job description
We seek as of now or according to agreement a highly-motivated Laboratory Technician to support current projects in the lab.
The main responsibility will be:
- organoid/tumoroid culture
- maintenance and characterization (microscopy, RNA preparation, DNA preparation, histology, drug screening, flow cytometry)
- general support of ongoing research
You will be part of an international team of researchers and participate in innovative research projects in a highly motivated scientific environment.
Profile

A highly-motivated research technician interested in substantially contributing to cancer and stem cell research
- Willingness to take responsibility for complex tasks
- Great organization and documentation skills
- Familiar with molecular biology techniques
- Willing to collaborate with lab members and support leading projects in the lab
- Not afraid of learning new techniques and testing ideas
- A team player with excellent communication skills
- Previous experience with complex cell culture models (e.g. 3D culture) is a plus
