Intern in Operational Environmental Protection / Major Accident Prevention

The ten employees of the Operational Environmental Protection and Major Accident Prevention section of the Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air (AWEL) develop technical foundations and implement the regulations of water protection, waste management and major accident prevention in industrial and commercial enterprises. During your internship, you will gain a versatile insight into official enforcement and actively participate in current technical and enforcement projects.

In your six-month or, if desired, one-year internship, you will gain insight into the varied enforcement activities of a cantonal environmental authority and have the opportunity to make various contacts.

Your tasks

You support enforcement in operational environmental protection and major accident prevention with a focus on retirement and nursing homes as well as laboratory operations. In addition, you contribute to the design and further development of enforcement procedures in the area of textile cleaning. You independently conduct company inspections, record and categorise companies according to their environmental relevance in the environmental database Umwelt-Plus, and initiate the necessary follow-up measures in case of identified deficiencies. Furthermore, you participate in other enforcement and technical projects of operational environmental protection.

Your profile

You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a university of applied sciences or university in the environmental, natural or engineering field. You find it easy to work in a team but also independently. You are structured and solution-oriented. Writing correctly and confidently in German comes easily to you. Last but not least, you bring joy and interest in environmental protection.
