The canton of St.Gallen has a vibrant theatre and dance scene with supraregional significance. The Department of Cultural Promotion of the canton of St.Gallen has revised the multi-year funding in the areas of dance, theatre, and contemporary circus. The multi-year funding supports professional performing arts groups in the canton of St.Gallen and creates stable framework conditions for artistic development, production, and touring activities.
A three-member jury assesses the applications. It consists of two external experts and one employee of the Department of Cultural Promotion.
We are looking for two independent persons residing outside the canton of St.Gallen from 1 November 2026 as
Jury Member Dance/Theatre/Contemporary Circus
Workload: on a mandate basis
Workplace: St.Gallen
What to expect
- Assessment of multi-year funding applications according to defined criteria
- Participation in jury meetings (usually one meeting per decision round)
- Participation in discussions with groups as well as artists
- Formulation of recommendations for the Cultural Promotion management
- Jury members are independent; during jury sessions, they may neither apply for nor receive funding as members of an institution, group, or as individuals from the independent scene in the canton of St.Gallen
- Possible conflicts of interest must be disclosed. In cases of bias, jury members must recuse themselves
- The maximum term of office for jury members is eight years (usually limited and associated with periodic rotation)
What distinguishes you
- Proven professional qualifications in the field of performing arts (theatre, dance, or contemporary circus)
- Experience in one or more of these areas, for example from artistic work, mediation and cultural education, work in organisations, research, or other approaches
- Good knowledge of the current independent theatre and dance scene in Switzerland
- Understanding of the concerns and needs of performing artists
- Willingness to represent your own positions in a nuanced way and to reflect on them in collegial exchange
