About the job
We are Deutsche Bahn. Millions of passengers travel with us every day, and we transport enormous quantities of goods – across Germany and neighbouring Europe. Too often, we also disappoint. That is why we are working intensively on a better railway. For that, we need energy and you! We are one of the most diverse employers in Germany. Every year, we look for around 5,000 trainees in 50 different apprenticeships who want to help us make the railway a little better every day. Join us: we offer attractive benefits, a dedicated contact person, and a great team by your side. And after successful training, you have excellent chances of being taken on!
Tracks, stations, landscapes – and people who rely on you to get them safely to their destination – to work, to a concert, home. That is regional transport: environmentally conscious, customer-oriented, indispensable, and you right in the middle ― as a train driver.
From 1 September 2027, we are looking for you for the 3-year training as a train driver (railway worker in operational service, train driver and transport) (m/f/d) at DB Regio AG in Freiburg im Breisgau. The vocational school is the Richard-Fehrenbach-Gewerbeschule in Freiburg.
What to expect in your training:
- You start with the basics: learning what signals mean, how a train works, and what it takes to keep regional transport safe
- Then it gets practical: you train on the simulator and later in the real cab – always with trainers by your side
- Technology is not neglected either: we also teach you how to prepare regional trains, assemble them for journeys, and carry out technical checks
- Safety and responsibility are paramount: you learn the rules for safe rail traffic, practise staying calm in special situations, and making decisions
- Throughout, you always keep your passengers in mind: if there are changes in operations, you inform your customers clearly and competently
- Whether a childhood dream or a newly discovered perspective: eventually comes the moment when you realise fascination has turned into responsibility – and you have become a train driver
Your profile:
- You have (soon) successfully completed school and your school leaving certificate is recognised in Germany
- Your German corresponds at least to language level B2
- You find technology exciting and like to understand how things work
- You remain calm when it matters, can take responsibility and make decisions, and are reliable
- Working weekends and public holidays is also fine for you
Get people to their destination – and take a big step forward yourself. Apply now for training as a train driver.
