As part of a major deep geothermal drilling project in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, IOTA is seeking several experienced drilling professionals to strengthen the teams involved in this campaign.
Job Description
We are looking for several experienced Mud Engineers to participate in a deep geothermal drilling campaign in Switzerland.
The operations will be carried out on a light drilling rig – Super Light Rig – equipped with an MPD (Managed Pressure Drilling) system.
The site will operate 24/7, with 12-hour shifts on a 3x3 rotation.
Technical training and project familiarisation of one to two weeks are planned in Switzerland in December 2026, before the operational start scheduled for January 2027.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring on-site services related to drilling fluids during operations.
- Conducting tests, controls and monitoring of drilling fluid properties.
- Supervising the preparation, mixing, treatment and pumping of fluids during the drilling programme.
- Analysing fluid performance and providing technical recommendations to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Monitoring fluid consumption and contributing to cost control and operational performance.
- Tracking parameters related to Solids Control and wellbore stability.
- Collaborating closely with drilling teams, supervisors and contractors.
- Ensuring compliance with project procedures, regulatory requirements and HSE standards.
- Supporting, training and mentoring junior engineers when necessary.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, engineering or technical training.
Required experience:
- Minimum 10 years of drilling operations experience.
- Experience in Onshore Oil & Gas AND deep geothermal drilling mandatory.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in continental Europe.
- Strong operational experience with drilling fluids.
- Excellent knowledge of Solids Control systems.
- Good understanding of Wellbore Stability issues.
Expected skills:
- Ability to analyse fluid performance and propose appropriate technical solutions.
- Proficiency in monitoring, treating and controlling drilling fluid properties.
- Ability to work in coordination with drilling teams and various contractors.
- Strong awareness of HSE, safety and environmental requirements.
- Ability to operate in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
- Advanced professional English is essential.
Required / desired certifications:
- IWCF Level 2
- OPITO H2S
- MIST or BOSIET
- Valid OEUK medical certificate
Experience with MPD – Managed Pressure Drilling operations will be particularly appreciated.
