The Department of Justice and Reintegration (JuWe) is responsible for the execution of sentences and measures as part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich, as well as for the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of people who have committed offenses, the prevention of recidivism, and the detention and preparation for the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.
The Halfway House Winterthur (HGW) is part of the correctional facilities of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is a specialized institution for halfway houses. Additionally, places for work externship, residential and work externship, as well as open detention are offered. The HGW provides space for 25 assigned individuals.
To complement our team, we are looking for a committed and independent personality by agreement.

This is your area of responsibility
- Ensuring and enforcing an orderly daily routine within the given daily structures, taking into account legal and operational rules
- Care and counseling of inmates as well as recognizing and managing crisis situations
- Engagement of individuals detained in house service
- Administrative tasks such as general correspondence, file management, applications, reporting, daily journals, internal reports, conducting interviews, etc.
- Cell checks regarding order and security, entry and exit controls, alcohol tests, urine samples
- Continuous case management from the initial conversation (creation of the residence agreement) to release
- Engagement of individuals detained in house service
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with prisons and external agencies such as referring authorities, medical service providers, courts, and social services
This is what you bring
- Completed training as a specialist in correctional services or in a similar social field
- Professional experience in a similarly situated care function is desired
- Willingness to work independently in shifts, including weekend and night shifts
- High psychological and physical resilience, assertiveness, teamwork ability, and confident appearance
- Established personality with a high degree of social competence
- Fluent German in spoken and written form, foreign language skills are desired
- Good IT user knowledge
- Ideal age from 30 years
- Impeccable character
