Senior Solution Architect
Zurich, Madrid |80-100 % | Reference 7938
As a Senior Solution Architect in the Exchange domain, you are a key contributor to the architecture of highly critical, performance sensitive platforms that underpin Swiss and international financial markets.
Your primary scope of work is Project Equinox / Program Polaris, where you actively shape next generation Exchange capabilities — from architectural vision and hands on experimentation to delivery and evolution. You operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy, working in close collaboration with business, engineering, and platform teams.
This role goes far beyond designing diagrams. As part of Solution Architecture, you are deeply involved across many topics and initiatives, combining hands on technical work with architectural leadership. The variety of challenges, technologies, and stakeholders keeps the role both dynamic and intellectually stimulating.
What You Will Do
- Lead and design end to end solution architectures for Project Equinox / Program Polaris and related Exchange initiatives, from early concept to productive use.
- Work hands on on technical challenges, including building Proofs of Concept (PoCs), validating architectural options, and supporting complex integrations.
- Actively challenge the status quo, critically assess existing architectures, and drive constructive architectural debate to continuously improve the Exchange landscape.
- Innovate pragmatically by experimenting with new technologies and patterns while balancing innovation with Exchange grade stability and reliability.
- Design and evolve event driven and streaming architectures using Kafka, enabling decoupling, scalability, and resilient integration across systems.
- Shape workflow orchestration and automation approaches using Apache Airflow, promoting standardization where it adds value.
- Define and govern cloud native and container based architectures (e.g. Kubernetes / OpenShift), ensuring secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
- Drive performance, resiliency, and capacity architecture, addressing non functional requirements such as latency, throughput, availability, and observability.
- Identify meaningful use cases to apply AI enabled solutions (e.g. automation, insight generation, operational efficiency), ensuring explainability and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate in Agile / Kanban setups, working closely with product owners, engineers, and stakeholders across multiple teams and domains.
- Act as a trusted sparring partner for senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment between business goals, technology strategy, and enterprise architecture.
What You Bring
- Several years of experience as a Senior Solution Architect in complex, regulated, and performance critical environments.
- Strong architectural background across multiple technologies and platforms, with the ability to switch context between topics and initiatives over time.
- Proven experience in cloud, container, and platform architectures (e.g. Kubernetes / OpenShift).
- Solid expertise in event driven and integration architectures, particularly with Apache Kafka.
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow, including operational and cloud native considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to build PoCs, experiment, and translate complex technical findings into robust, production ready architectures.
- A mindset that embraces ownership, autonomy, and responsibility, combined with a strong drive for quality and sustainability.
- Comfort working in Agile and Kanban environments, with a pragmatic and collaborative approach.
- Curiosity and motivation to work on complex, cross system challenges rather than focusing on a single application or technology.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, paired with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Very good English skills at business and technical level; German is an advantage.
