The Department of Economic Affairs and the Interior combines the areas of economy and labor, social affairs, as well as municipal and corporate matters. It is characterized by a special variety of areas of responsibility and thus offers an exciting and varied working day. The Municipal Affairs Unit, as part of the Department Secretariat, performs an advisory and supportive function for the municipalities in the canton of Glarus.
We are looking for a
Head of Municipal Affairs Unit 60–80 %
from January 1, 2026, or by arrangement. The workplace is in Glarus (home office possible).
Tasks
- Supervision of financial budget and accounting
- Accounting controls
- Information and advice on accounting and financial law issues
- Support with special topics such as asset accounting, cost accounting, or internal control system (ICS)
- Participation in inter-cantonal working groups and professional organizations
- Training of persons responsible for the financial area
- Expansion of calculation model, collection of financial key figures, control and assessment of municipal accounts, statistical evaluation, reporting (municipal finance rating)
- Internal administrative management and coordination of municipal files (excluding complaints and supervisory notifications)
- Professional support of internal departments on financial technical questions
Requirements
- Federal diploma in finance and accounting or university of applied sciences degree with a focus on accounting
- Several years of professional experience in finance and accounting and ideally knowledge of public finances
- Analytical skills and interconnected thinking
- Solution-oriented and independent working style
- Structured and reliable way of working
- Assertiveness, flexibility, and resilience
- Presentation and communication skills
- Confidence in written and spoken language
