The cantonal office (KAST) of the unemployment insurance ensures uniform enforcement of the Unemployment Insurance Act (AVIG) at the cantonal level. Notifications and transfers from the Regional Employment Centres (RAV) and the unemployment funds regarding entitlement questions are processed by KAST. It is responsible for sanctions, the assessment of placement ability, the approval of short-time work and bad weather compensation, as well as the handling of objections and waiver requests.
