Are mindful care and living options for elderly people important to you?
Then you are in the right place!
The "Freundeskreis Stiftung Halden" is a non-profit association dedicated to the idealistic and material support of the foundation.
DEAR INTERESTED PARTIES
"Having a share in life" - this is the wish of many residents in institutions for elderly care and support. This concern is also a top priority for the
"Stiftung Halden · Living & Life in Old Age".
One way of "having a share" is the connection with people who relate to the nursing home or assisted living in very different ways. To provide a framework for this relationship, the non-profit association "Freundeskreis Stiftung Halden" was founded in 2019. Its purpose is "the idealistic and material promotion and support" of the foundation. The statutes show a variety of
possible activities.
The Freundeskreis is open to all interested parties: relatives, visitors,
staff, volunteers, as well as people from the city and neighbourhood and the Ecumenical Community Halden.
We warmly invite you to become a member. If you would like more information, just call or email us.
We look forward to hearing from you and send our kind regards!

FROM THE
"WORKERS' WELFARE"
TO THE "STIFTUNG HALDEN"
At the beginning were committed women and a religiously motivated social idea: The nursing home has its roots in the Pension Felsengarten, which was opened in 1902 by the Catholic Workers' Association St.Gallen (today: Christian Social Movement KAB). The management was held by the Menzinger Sisters until 1980. The
women from the early days are no longer known by name. Indispensable for the foundation were Alois Scheiwiler, the later Bishop of St.Gallen, and especially the social reform priest Johann Baptist Jung.
Originally part of the cathedral parish, in 1935 the newly founded "Association for Workers' Welfare Felsengarten St.Gallen" took over sponsorship. After several changes of statutes and names, in 2019 the "Association Nursing Home
Halden" was transformed into the "Stiftung Halden · Living & Life in Old Age" and the "Freundeskreis Stiftung Halden" was created to promote it.
The institution had to adapt several times to social change.
Originally, only single working women lived here. In 1957 the statutes determined that the pension was a home for elderly people (men and women), especially for members of the Catholic workers' associations. From 1986 it was open to "elderly and care-dependent people of all denominations, especially from modest economic backgrounds".
The buildings increasingly proved unsuitable for contemporary elderly care. The opportunity for a new building below the Halden Church was taken and the properties on Felsenstrasse were sold to the city. In 1990 the architecturally much-noticed new nursing home was occupied and in 2008 the extension for assisted living was opened.
The KAB supported the new building in 1987 in the expectation that the nursing home would remain religiously located. These idealistic roots are also noticeable in terms of the Christian view of humanity to which the institution is still committed today.
Committed members of the Christian Social Movement KAB are active in the foundation council and the Freundeskreis.
