The Aarau City Museum is a historical museum that sees itself as a living memory repository of the city and preserves over seven centuries of history for the future with its historical collection. Digital storytelling and participatively developed narratives enrich the permanent exhibition on the city's history. In addition, the museum regularly presents temporary exhibitions – own creations, cooperations, or external productions.
The Aarau City Museum is looking for two trainees starting February 1, 2026, or by arrangement, limited to 6 months, to
o Implement school projects
o Plan and carry out various event formats (story cafés, mediation events, etc.)
o Plan and moderate exchange rounds
o Write social media posts and blog articles
o Implement smaller exhibition projects
o Inventory new collection acquisitions
o Guided training days with subject matter experts
o Independent visits and reflections on exhibitions

We offer the opportunity as a trainee to experience and reflect on participatory and outreach museum work in its various facets from practice over 6 months, through collaboration in museum operations as well as targeted training modules in the areas of participation & outreach museum work, collection work, exhibition curation, communication, and marketing.
