About the job
Electrician is an exciting basic training that opens all doors. Electrical engineering installations are indispensable for the functioning of the economy and society. Specialists in the electrical and telematics sector have good opportunities on the job market thanks to the versatile and varied training. Electricians are also sought-after professionals in the fire brigade, police, radio and television, theatre, as technical caretakers, in building and facility management, and in many other areas.
The training lasts four years and is completed with the Federal VET Diploma as an Electrician EFZ.
Although you are trained in an electrical installation company, you mainly work at the customer’s premises. The profession offers variety, exciting projects, and much more. You acquire practical skills in the company and in inter-company courses.
In the first and second year of apprenticeship, you also attend vocational school on average 1½ days per week, and in the third and fourth year for one day. You are taught in the subjects of processing technology, technological fundamentals (including mathematics), technical documentation, electrical system technology, and communication technology.
You attend the inter-company course (üK) in the 1st to 3rd year of apprenticeship for three consecutive weeks each year, and in the 4th year for two consecutive weeks at a training centre. In the üK, you will learn fundamental practical skills in addition to your training in the company.
If you achieve very good school results, you can attend the vocational baccalaureate school (BMS) during your apprenticeship in agreement with the training company. A successful completion entitles you to transfer to a university of applied sciences without an entrance examination.
