Job Description
As a specialist in occupational safety, you focus on two main areas:
• Understanding risks = risk assessments (30%)
• Implementation of control measures = operational site and HSE department activities (70%)
1 – Understanding risks
- Leads process risk assessments and workplace risk assessments
- Manages and develops the risk assessment strategy according to legal and Syngenta internal requirements
2 – Operational site and HSE department activities
- Supports production with safety expertise on site
- Manages the reporting process for HSE incidents and supports investigations, shared learning experiences, and internal communication
- Supports the organization in functional assessment during change processes
- Supports the organization in operational safety compliance according to all Swiss legal regulations and Syngenta internal rules (occupational, process, and environmental safety)
- Provides safety-related training (HSE prevention and protection)
- Implements the necessary measures to further develop the HSE strategy at the Muttenz site
- Supports the development of the environmental reporting platform for the site
- Works in the site's emergency management
- Audit: Supports site-related HSE audits and acts as an internal auditor
- Lives and represents the Syngenta HSE culture through leadership and behavior
Qualifications
- Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent
- At least 5 years of experience in a chemical production environment in an operational role (production, engineering, HSE)
- Certification as a specialist in occupational safety according to the ASA guideline (EKAS-RL 6508) is an advantage
- Solid understanding of the Swiss regulatory environment and its application in the process industry
- Experience with safety risk assessments and incident investigations in the process industry; knowledge of risk assessment methods (workplace risk assessment, HAZOP)
- Understanding of chemical production processes including operational standard safety procedures (work permits, change management, incident investigations ...)
- Ability to use AI tools and support their implementation
- Fluent in English and German, French skills are an advantage.
