The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of History, Economics and Society offer the opening of a 100% assistant professor position. He/she will be required to teach courses in economic and social history and political economy (maximum 4 hours per week), correct and grade student work, supervise and mark exams, and guide students in preparing their Bachelor and Master projects.
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong research ability in the fields of political economy or economic and social history, and skills in quantitative methods. A wide variety of specialities in these fields will be considered, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to our research and teaching programmes in both economic history and the political economy of capitalism.
Title and required skills
The ideal candidate must hold a doctoral degree in history, economics or another social science.
Required skills:
- ability to conduct research projects (published articles and books);
- proficiency in scientific writing;
- doctoral or postdoctoral stay of at least one year at another Swiss or foreign university or evidence of active involvement in a national or international research network;
- ease of interaction with students, preferably through teaching experience and ability to work in a team;
- fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.

Job description
The School of Social Sciences and the Department of History, Economics and Society propose the opening of a "maître assistant(e)" (the equivalent of a fixed-term Research and Teaching Fellow) position at 100%. He/she will be required to teach courses in economic and social history and in political economy (maximum of 4 hours per week), to correct and grade student papers, to proctor and correct exams and to provide guidance to students in the preparation of their Bachelor projects and Masters’ theses.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong research capacity in the fields of political economy or economic and social history, and expertise in quantitative methods. A wide variety of specialties in these fields will be considered but we are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to our research and teaching programmes in economic history and the political economy of capitalism.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree in history, economics or another social science.
