Apprentice: Precision Optician EFZ for 2027

Area of work:

For optical devices such as telescopes, microscopes, projection devices, medical diagnostic equipment, and astro lenses, precision opticians manufacture lenses, prisms, plane and round optical components. They process the glass partly by hand, partly with modern computer-controlled machines (CNC), which they programme, set up, and also maintain. Accuracy and precision characterise the optical parts, therefore work is done to fractions of a thousandth of a millimetre.

Requirements:

• Good eyesight without colour vision deficiencies, steady hands

• Enjoyment of precision work

• Technical understanding

• Spatial imagination

• Interest in chemistry, physics, and mathematics

• Flexibility, creativity, and ability to work in a team

• Good secondary school students or very good intermediate school students

Training:

• Duration of apprenticeship, 4 years

• Vocational school, BZR Rorschach
