Legal Specialist in Work Permits 60 - 70%In the interest of companies and employees, the Office for Economy (AWI) contributes to strengthening the location Zurich. The AWI consolidates economic competencies in the areas of location promotion, work permits, labour relations, labour inspection, and economics.
The Work Permits division ensures the enforcement of legal provisions concerning the admission of foreigners to gainful employment at the cantonal level.
From 01.10.2026 or by arrangement, we count on your support as a Legal Specialist in Work Permits.
Your tasks:
- Processing enquiries and applications with complex subject matter
- Participation in quality assurance and development in the area of work permits
- Shaping enforcement practice as well as the orientation and further development of the Work Permits division as a member of the management team
- Responsibility for legal remedy procedures concerning the Work Permits division and independent handling of corresponding cases
- Networking and collaboration with other offices, especially the Cantonal Migration Office and the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM)
- Advising and supporting the division (especially the division management) in political matters and legal clarifications
- Process responsibility for documentation and archiving
Your profile:
- Completed legal studies
- At least three years of qualified professional experience as a lawyer – ideally in public administration or a related administrative environment (lawyer’s licence advantageous)
- Dexterity and confidence in the structured formulation of complex opinions and decisions as well as interest in economic and procedural legal issues
- Very good English skills at level C1
- Assertiveness and a convincing manner with various contacts from business and administration
