The legal service of the Building and Environment Department, organisationally integrated into the Office for the Environment, supports the Office for the Environment, the Office for Water and Energy, the Civil Engineering Office, and the Office for Spatial Development and Geoinformation in legally compliant enforcement. The legal service handles the broad range of legal areas that fall within the remit of the aforementioned offices.
We are looking for a
Lawyer (m/f/d)
Starting 1 September 2026 or by arrangement
Workload: 80-100%
Workplace: St. Gallen
What to expect
- Processing of hydraulic engineering planning procedures (water construction projects) of municipalities at the preliminary examination and approval stages
- Assessment of objections against cantonal water construction projects, focusing on the Rhesi flood protection project
- Water body determinations
- Handling legal questions in the context of preliminary examination of municipal road plans
- Processing approval applications for municipal road plans
- In the areas of hydraulic engineering, natural hazards, road law, and water protection law:
- Participation in appeal procedures
- Drafting statements for the public prosecutor's office in environmental offences
- Review of legal questions
- Advising municipalities and private individuals
- Participation in consultations on legislative proposals from the federal and cantonal governments
- Participation in the handling of parliamentary initiatives and collaboration on projects
What distinguishes you
