The Landscape Dynamics research unit analyses and assesses short- and long-term changes of the natural resources of built-up, managed and near-natural landscapes. The Land Use Systems group is looking for a Tenure Track position a
Global change with its impacts on climate, ecosystems, economy and population poses great challenges to land use and the provision of related services, which can only be addressed by involving various disciplines as well as close collaboration with stakeholders from practice. Conceptualising landscapes as multifunctionalsocio-ecological systems offers a valuable approach for this.
The methodological focus of this position lies on integrative spatial modelling of land use systems and landscapes, and based on this, on developing foundations for decision support for sustainable landscape management. You will develop innovative theoretical and practical concepts, methods and applications with a focus on internationally important research questions and local to national applications.For this purpose, you will draw on relevant expertise from the natural and social sciences at WSL as well as from the international research community.You will establish internationally recognised research activities and acquire the necessary funding in the national and international environment with internal and external scientific partners and stakeholders.
You hold a doctoral degree in geography, landscape ecology, environmental sciences or a similar field. As a landscape researcher with several years of experience focusing on land use systems, you are familiar with integrative spatial modelling and decision support in transdisciplinary processes. You are innovative, motivated, creative and reliable, have a conceptual, inter- and transdisciplinary working style and enjoy working both independently and in a team. You possess good oral and written English skills and have experience in writing and publishing scientific articles. Good knowledge of German and ideally another national language is also required.
