About the job
The Kantonsschule Zürich Nord, as the largest secondary school in the canton of Zurich, is located in Zurich-North and offers the students of the region a comprehensive secondary school program with a long gymnasium, a short gymnasium, and a specialized secondary school on one campus. Our school has around 2,300 students, 300 teachers, and 50 central services staff. The school management consists of 8 principals and one deputy as part of the extended school management. The Central Services area, with its nine departments, covers the administrative, organizational, and technical sectors of the school. The Kantonsschule Zürich Nord is basically located on the campus in Zurich-Oerlikon; due to a complete renovation, we are temporarily on the Irchel campus from summer 2024 to summer 2027.
School social work at secondary schools started in August 2022 as a pilot project and has now been established. We have a total of 240 full-time equivalents available. To complement the existing team, 145% are to be filled with entry dates of May 1, 2026, or August 15, 2026. Another 15% will be available from the 2027/28 school year.

Your tasks
As a school social work professional, you advise secondary school students on personal, social, and school-related challenges. You promote their integration into the class and support the school team in recognizing psychosocial problems and initiating early interventions. You contribute your expertise to positively shape participation opportunities and community building at the school. You maintain a sustainable network with the relevant counseling centers. Together with other professionals, you build a stage-specific, professionally sound, and needs-based school social work at the Kantonsschule Zürich Nord. Ideally, you already have experience in class interventions, prevention work, and support in crisis and emergency situations.
Your profile
You are a committed individual with professional experience in school social work or counseling experience in the youth sector. You are interested in age-typical developmental tasks and associated aspects of mental health. With your solution-oriented systemic approach, you can mediate well between different concerns. You have an independent, structured, and reflective way of working and look forward to helping shape the new support offer at secondary schools. Knowledge in concept and project work is advantageous. Your communication skills, teamwork, and resilience benefit you both in dealing with various stakeholders and in managing crises.
A formal requirement for application is a bachelor's degree in social work combined with further training in school social work (CAS) or a comparable field (CAS).
