Veterinary Clinical Pathologist / ECVCP or ACVCP-Diplomate/FachtierarztIn für
Labordiagnostik (FVH)

The Clinical Laboratory is a multivalent veterinary laboratory and a central service unit for the
University Animal Hospital, University of Zurich, Switzerland. We analyze about 30'000 samples/year
from companion, farm and zoo animals providing hematology, cytology, clinical chemistry,
endocrinology, flow cytometrical analyses, urinalysis, as well as serological and molecular diagnostic
results. We are an important partner for the University Hospital as well as for private practitioners,
Zoos and wildlife parks. The Clinical Laboratory is accredited by the European College of Veterinary
Clinical Pathology (ECVCP) and has currently two Residents and two ECVCP-Diplomates.
To complete our diagnostic team, we are offering a permanent position (70%) by first of July 2022 or
by arrangement.

Candidates should have the following qualifications:


  • A professional degree in veterinary medicine (Dr. med. vet., DVM)

  • Board certification in Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP/ACVCP) OR a completed residency

program in Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP/ACVCP) OR a national degree in veterinary clinical
pathology (Fachtierarzt/Fachtierärztin für Labordiagnostik / FVH-TitelträgerIn)


  • Excellent experience in veterinary cytology and hematology is mandatory.

  • The candidate should be a team-player with excellent communication skills, resilient and enjoying

teaching and mentoring.


  • Knowledge of German (fluent oral) and English language is mandatory for this position. Non

German speaking applicants should be willing to learn German in an appropriate time frame.

Duties:


  • Diagnostic Service: cytology and flow cytometry interpretation and reporting, review of hematology

slides, medical validation of all laboratory results, support and advice of laboratory technicians within
the daily routine,


  • Fast and friendly responses to customer requests during business hours (Monday to Friday - no

weekend or emergency services)


  • Contribution to the clinical training and teaching of veterinary students, interns, residents and

technicians and participation in continuing education activities.

Clinical Laboratory and to participate in committee work.

Conditions of employment:
The successful candidate will enjoy an active and highly motivated team in an excellently equipped
academic clinical pathology laboratory and research environment. The salary will be determined
according to the Vetsuisse Faculty University of Zurich (VSF) guidelines and will reflect the applicant’s
experience and qualifications. Five weeks of vacation are included as well as admission to the
retirement plan. The VSF is a state owned, safe employer.

Zurich is one of the world’s most attractive cities, located at the delightful lake of Zurich and with a
very high living standard . The campus of the VSF is located at the outskirts of the city, close to the
Irchel campus and approximately 15 minutes (by tram) from the central campus of the University. On
weekends numerous attractive trips to the beautiful Swiss Alps or other beautiful Swiss cities are
possible.
