The Veterinary Service within the Office for Agriculture is responsible for enforcing animal protection, animal disease, and veterinary medicinal product legislation as well as food legislation in the area of animal husbandry and slaughter in the Canton of Solothurn. For the Animal Protection Unit, we are seeking an official veterinarian, 80-100% at the Solothurn location from 01.01.2027 or by arrangement.
Your responsibilities
- You conduct animal protection inspections in agricultural or private livestock holdings and in pet keeping.
- You are responsible for enforcing the inspection results in the area of animal protection (complaints, orders, appeals).
- You assess agricultural building applications within the framework of consultation procedures.
- If necessary, you provide official veterinary support in other areas (double inspections, in cases of disease outbreaks, administrative leadership support, etc.).
Your profile
- You hold a university degree in veterinary medicine with further training as an official veterinarian or are willing to complete this training.
- You have several years of experience in handling livestock and possess solid knowledge of agricultural livestock husbandry.
- You are well versed in veterinary legislation and administrative procedures.
- A process-oriented, precise and structured working style combined with excellent verbal and written communication skills in German are among your strengths. Negotiation skills and assertiveness combined with emotional resilience and high endurance complete your profile.
