Train traffic control is an indispensable part of railway traffic. Here, you ensure that our passengers reach their destination safely and punctually.

You want to start training as a train traffic controller (m/f/d) on 1 September 2027 and are currently at language level B1? No problem. We support you and offer you the opportunity to participate in a free online language course from January 2027 to July 2027. This will enable you to achieve language level B2 and start your professional future with us. Through an intensive online language course, which will take place in the afternoon, you will achieve language level B2. This will allow you to get started in training as a train traffic controller (m/f/d).

With the training, you will become the coordinator of our trains. For this, you do not sit on the train but in a control centre (called a "signal box"). We have countless of these throughout Germany. Via screens or boards, you can observe the trains in your area and influence the trains’ journeys using buttons, keys, and levers. Because at the push of a button, you can set signals (traffic lights for trains) to green or red and also switch points so that trains can change tracks. Many other tasks make you the most important team member for the train drivers. You are constantly in contact and exchange information, for example about changes during the journey.

With your large team of about 40 colleagues, you work in the operations centre on an electronic signal box. At your workplace, you can track the trains on many screens and control train traffic with a mouse click.

This is what awaits you in your training:

• Your colleagues will show you step by step how to operate the technology in a signal box correctly
• You will learn when to press the right keys and buttons to switch signals (traffic lights) or points (transitions for track changes)
• You will often be in contact with other employees in train traffic control and control centres as well as with train drivers
• You are an important part of our team and enable our passengers to have a safe and punctual journey with our trains

Your profile:

• You have (soon) successfully completed school and your school leaving certificate is recognised in Germany
• Your German language skills correspond to at least level B1
• You remain calm and keep an overview even in demanding situations
• You like to take responsibility and work with concentration
• Teamwork and reliability characterise you
• You are willing to work in shifts
